Bisilubadnekai

For those who dont know kannada the literal translation would be " sun brinjal". but what the phrase bisilubadnekai means is explained later in my post, So lazy people read on,

I am back from mumbai. Not looking too great. All tanned inspite of generously using sunblock creams. This is to prove that none of the creams provide any protection in reality. Or maybe this holds true in Mumbai, where even a cap doesnt help. I was sweating like anything.Caps and umbrellas were too uncomfortable.

I am tanned but I enjoyed the tan. After so many years I was back in the place where I was born, and I met my school friends too. About 12 of us met up ( half of them are abroad, thanks to software boom). We went to our school and sat on the same old benches and took pictures. It was so nostalgic. I took a piece of chalk and wrote names of all naughty guys whose names I used to write on the board when I was the class monitor. We all had dinner together after 10 years. It was touching. I am not sure if we all will be able to meet up again in the near future.

I ate and ate and ate. Vada pav, sabudana khichdi, All mumbai chaat. Interestingly they had new additions. one of them was Chinese bhel!!! though I didnt venture into tasting it. I prefer my good old Bhel. I shopped, shopped, shopped. For clothes ofcourse! One should not lose the opportunity when one gets cotton salwars for less than half the rate of what we get here in Bangalore. So all I did was eat-sleep-shop-read.

In all it was fun. Now to bisilubadnekai. It just means that I am tanned and sun burnt. To add to the woes, Mumbai still has eight hour power cuts in the central suburbs. So for someone who has been in Bangalore for six years and so used to the pleasant weather here, Mumbai was intolerably hot

As soon as I landed at Bangalore airport I decided to play a joke on a auto guy here. I dont look like a South Indian or Maharashtrian girl.I look more like a Punjabi. ( most of my friends say so) So I caught hold of one auto guy, asked him if he would take me to my destination in hindi. The guy looked at me and he said yes.
I again asked in hindi " Kitna loge bhaisaheb?" He looked again and said " 200 madam, Do sau" And I had to give it back to him in Kannada " Yenri? Yaaranna bakra maadthaidhira? Allige hogodhakke bari 70-75 rupees aagodhu, Yen kannada barolla antha thilidukondu topi haakokke nodhthira?" I wish I had a camera to capture the exact emotions of the auto guy. Wish we could somehow book complaints on such guys. If you all remember about a year back I had written a post about a guy named Babu, who plies an autorickshaw, He had come all the way searching for my mother because she had left her medical report in his auto. He didnt even wait till I could reward him and left. I hope and pray he is doing good business and is living a happy life. Thanks to a few guys like the one i met today, most auto guys are always looked on with suspicion.

Anyway, Now that I am back. I have lot of time in hand. I got some nice fabric paints and some nice designs ( I love painting pots and cloth. Its a hobby) So I will sit and paint after two years. Would put up pictures of the same once I am done. C ya all.

@ Abhishek and Vishnu: :)

@ Unicorn: Ha ha ha haha.. ROTFL.. Well Sun Brinjal means I am tanned. In Kannada we say bisilubadnekai thindu bande, which means i was roasted in the sun and am as tanned as a burnt brinjal.

At Mumbai,You should try some typical maharastrian food, which is yummy. Apart from chats and vada pav, go to any poli-bhaji kendra to eat typical maharastrian fare. you can try shrikhand and puri, also try some misal pav. Shira is something like our kesaribath but more dry version of the same. Near CST station you have a gujrati restaurant which serves good Gujrathi vegetarian fare. The meals are unlimited and serve good for 70-80 bucks.
